Founded in 1858, Blackheath Rugby Football Club in south-east London is the oldest open rugby club in the world. With a remarkable pedigree, the club is still constantly looking forward in order to develop for the future.

A move from its original home of Rectory Field to a new location at Well Hall meant a new pitch for Blackheath RFC’s 1st XV which required floodlighting to ensure compliance with the league whilst, at the same time, satisfying environmental constraints relating to the close proximity of a major road (the South Circular Road – A205) and neighbouring residential properties. The club was looking for a future-proofed system in line with these objectives and its aspirations for promotion.

The planning application for the floodlighting project was submitted in June 2016 and approval was granted in September 2016. There were no comments or objections due to the unique optical control of spill of the LED’s and a well-managed application.

Players, supporters and staff of Blackheath Rugby Football Club in southeast London are enjoying new LED floodlighting, installed by Wiseman Lighting, on their pitch. The club now benefits from excellent light, greatly reduced spill light beyond the pitch, better efficiency and greatly increased reliability. General Manager at Blackheath RFC, Albert Patrick, gives a little more detail, “Harry and his team from Wiseman were absolutely brilliant regarding the funding, purchase and installation of LED floodlights for our new pitch in Eltham SE9. We were kept informed at every stage of the process. It was a pleasure working with them. Nothing was too much trouble.”
